Playing with a paradox can be a lot of fun especially when you have a very experienced model such as this month’s lady…Lenore. Professional to the max, and a pleasure to shoot with. So with that said lets get started. This light is silly simple and irritatingly complicated all at the same time. Now there are two paradoxes instead of one. The solution is taking each one as a separate task and the job becomes easy. The first is in the wardrobe and this is the easy one. You see tons of topless glamour images, but very few images where the model is covered at the top but not the bottom. Psychologically there seems to be a unwritten rule where no knickers has to go hand in hand with a topless image. Trust me there isn’t! Especially with a professional of Lenore’s caliber. We discussed the image and since the goal was to show the top and the line of the garment for Bound in Leather, we decided that it was to be only the top worn. First issue solved in minutes. Now the lighting. This was taken on a shoot where over 20 different images needed to be produced. Not all that bad except we only had a 6 hour window to shoot including the time for set changes and hair & make-up. No time for complicated lighting so out came the strip bank soft box. |

The strip bank was placed to the image left and directed at Lenore. A test shot was done and we agreed that the garment had to face the light, BUT for drama I wanted her to face off to the right and NOT look at the camera. A second test looked good with the exception of a very hash shadow so a fill card was added to soften the shadow. Another BUT when I placed the fill card I kept it low enough so it did not kill the shadow on the face. I wanted drama. From there it was only a matter of shoot away. Oh one more small point notice how the Lenore’s arm is used as a lead in line on the image? When I dropped down for a low angle she instinctively knew what to do to keep a flow to the image. Time to set and get the images 15 minutes and the light was set for the next subject cutting back the time. We finished ahead of schedule. See nothing to it. See you next month in the Online Studio and always... Chase Your Dreams Not your competition Jack Cutler |
